About Us

Shernhall Pre-school is a multi-cultural pre-school that offers flexible childcare for children aged between 2 and 5 years. Our care is structured as Morning Sessions – which run from 8:30 to 11:30 –  Lunch Club – which runs from 11:30 to 12:30 – and Afternoon Sessions – which run from 12:30 to 3:30. These sessions run for 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) and we can cater for you and your childs needs by specifically designing your sessions to suit you (subject to available spaces).

Staffing Levels

We currently have 11 members of staff, 9 that work directly with the children, a family liaison officer and administrator. This means that we will always be able to supervise the children whilst they play. This allows us to create a safe and friendly environment, whilst staying within the ratio guidelines set by the Government Guidelines of National Standards in conjunction with Ofsted. The child to adult ratios are shown in the chart below which vary with age of children.

Age Child : Adult Ratio
2 Year Olds 4 : 1
3-5 Year Olds 8 : 1

Waiting List

You can contact us to ask about available spaces and we can give you the latest information.  If you would like to visit the pre-school to find out personally how we could care for your child then please contact us via our contact us page, link below.

Work Experience

As well as the 11 members of staff, the pre-school also offers limited placements to students studying for NVQ’s, childcare qualifications. This gives us a unique position, as we are offering education to those of pre-school age, as well as allowing those of an older age to progress with their education. If you are in a position where you would like to undertake work placement with us, then please do not hesitate to ask.

Ofsted Report

We are regulated and inspected by Ofsted and our current rating for the most recent inspection (February 2023) was rated as “Good”.

Ofsted rate settings through a numerical system of 1 – 4 (1 being Outstanding, 2 being Good, 3 being Satisfactory and 4 being Inadequate). As you can see, the pre-school achieved a very good result.
